Yeah, I am very biased because it features my team (GO POKES), but it is still relevant to post here. I love Sports Illustrated. Not because of the great articles or the amazing photos or the ‘faces in the crowd’ or Rick Reilly. I love them because of their brand. Their brand is iconic and very recognizable. They have stuck with it for a very long time too. It is still the same logo it was 40+ years ago, very simple, Swiss-ish font with very little typographic pyrotechnics (unless you think one word stacked on top of another with set solid leading is amazing). It is so recognizable, that they can cover up half the letters and everyone will still understand immediately that they are looking at an issue of SI. I LOVE THE BRAVADO OF THAT. And if you don’t recognize it, well you are not their target audience. Or you are from Mars. And they don’t sell SI on Mars.

I am seeing this look really catching on lately. The combination of yellow, orange and blue (mostly slate blue) is everywhere. And not just for one industry. Weather Channel has been using the hell out of it. And it seems to be gaining a lot of steam. I think in a few years that this scheme is going to be looked at as a ‘late teens’ color scheme. And yes, I know, this very site does have some of these elements.
I found one of the greatest things ever today. Mp3 files from an album that I listened to a million-or-so times when I was a little kid. It was a story album (think 40s radio shows like Dragnet or The Lone Ranger, that is the kind of narrative) with 4 stories of my biggest hero at the time, Conan the Barbarian (the time in case you were wondering was about 1982).
